WASHINGTON -- This Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, marks the 48th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic "I Have a Dream" speech. It's also the dedication day for his memorial in Washington, D.C.
"The memorial to Dr. King is the first on the National Mall to celebrate a man of color, hope and peace," said Harry E. Johnson Sr., president of the MLK National Memorial Foundation.
It's also a monument that has been in the works for some time. In 1996, Congress passed a joint resolution authorizing Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.to build a memorial in Washington, D.C., honoring Dr. King.
In 2006, President George W. Bush joined former President Bill Clinton, members of Congress and an array of civil rights leaders for the memorial's groundbreaking ceremony.
At this Sunday's dedication, President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak.

KREAYSHAWN :: FALL TOUR 2011

THIS SOURCE IS FROM WIKI Natassia Gail Zolot[1] (born September 24, 1989), better known by her stage name Kreayshawn, is an American rap singer-songwriter from Oakland, California. She is the daughter of Elka Zolot, former member of the San Francisco garage punk band The Trashwomen.

Career

Kreayshawn directed numerous underground music videos.[2] Kreayshawn additionally performs as part of the White Girl Mob, consisting of herself, fellow vocalist V-Nasty, and DJ Lil' Debbie.
She became well-known after posting the video for her single, "Gucci Gucci" (song produced by DJ Two Stacks, video directed by Joseph Zentil of Strange Customs), generating nearly three million YouTube views in three weeks. In the song she proclaims her disdain for wearing designer brands such as GucciLouis VuittonFendi, or Prada: "Basic bitches wear that shit, so I don't even bother."[3]
In the video, Kreayshawn raps and ghostrides with her sidekick, DJ Lil' DebbieJasper Dolphin, and Left Brain of the hip-hop group OFWGKTA also make appearances in the video for the single, along with Stephen James Turner and Aaron Matthew Perez. On June 8, 2011 it was announced that she signed a recording contract with Columbia Records.
On June 23, 2011 it was announced that Kreayshawn would direct the music video for "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie", the first single from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album, I'm with You, which is due for release on August 30, 2011. The single was released on July 15, 2011, though it is unknown when the video will be released.[4] Kreayshawn told MTV that she was shocked when the band's label contacted her management about directing the video. She said she went to film school but never thought it would translate to something this big.[5] In late July 2011, the Chili Peppers decided to film a second version of the music video with director, Marc Klasfeld which will be released August 17, 2011 instead of the version Kreayshawn directed. It is currently unknown why the band opted to re-shoot the video and not go with Kreayshawn's version or if her version will ever be released.[6]
She is currently nominated for Best New Artist at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

[edit]Criticism and reception

Video "Gucci Gucci" has accumulated over 12,420,150 views on YouTube as of August 2011.[7] Zolot was quickly signed to Columbia Records after her hit was released. She performed with her group White Girl Mob at a highly anticipated event. While Ellen Lovelidge of Pulse praised their performance, she said "they'll smooth out the kinks in a year or so", referencing on-stage inexperience and the frequent use of the word "nigga" by herself and White Girl Mob member V-Nasty.[8]
Not all reviews have been positive however. Several critics have lambasted Kreayshawn citing cultural appropriation as an "exploitation of black culture".[9] Bene Viera of Clutch Mag stated, "It's equally problematic that every female emcee post, and MC Lyte who has had massive mainstream success all had to sell sex. Kreayshawn, on the other hand, is able to avoid an over sexualized image because of her whiteness."
West Coast rapper, Game, released a diss track "Uncle Otis" where he accuses Zolot of using racial slurs. He explained, "You can't be playing with that word, some people will take it serious, especially coming from someone that's [not black]. There's a lot of tragic history behind it.

Is United States Still Number One country in the world ? find out @smarterhiphop

Is the United States a power in decline?

For decades, the United States has been the number one global economic power. But during the past few years, it has faced a sluggish economy, millions of Americans out of work, a huge budget deficit and a polarized political environment. All of these factors have compelled some experts here and abroad to ask whether the United States is a powerful nation in decline.

John Bolton is former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations: “Oh I think it’s way too soon to say that. Just find another power in the world that would like to go up against us militarily and the takers are few and far between. There are other countries whose economies are expanding, but after World War II, when Europe was able to recover from the massive destruction of the war, as Japan recovered in its turn, that didn’t reduce America’s influence," he said. "It may have seen others rise in their share of the world’s total product, but the result really was that everybody in the world got wealthier.”

Experts say China is a country whose economic growth could make it a powerful player in the years ahead - and a potential rival to the United States.

Joseph Nye is a senior scholar at Harvard University: “China has had very impressive progress. It has raised several hundred million people out of poverty with its high growth rates and it is making very impressive progress. I think it is going to get closer to the United States, give the U.S. a run for its money, but I don’t see it passing the U.S,” he said.

For his part, Alan Meltzer, an economics professor at Carnegie Mellon University, does believe the U.S. is a declining power. He says one reason is that since the end of the Cold War, European nations have been accommodating American interests less and less because they don’t need Washington as much as they did during the Soviet threat.

And Meltzer says there is another reason for the American decline.

“The United States couldn’t solve its budget problems and a country that can’t solve its budget problems is not in a very good position to tell other people what they should do,” Meltzer stated.

President Barack Obama and congressional leaders recently reached an agreement to increase the country’s debt ceiling - but only after some acrimonious exchanges.

Nye says a polarized political climate in Washington is nothing new.

“The outside world sees a very messy political process and many people say it shows Americans in decline. But if one looks back historically, the Americans have always had a rather messy political process - the Founding Fathers had very bitter partisan politics among themselves," he explained. "I think we are going through a bad spell of polarization in politics, but we’ve been through things like that before.”

And Nye says there is also nothing new in the current discussion whether the United States is in decline. “We go through cycles like this every decade or two. After Sputnik [1957 - first satellite to be put into Earth’s orbit] we thought the Russians were 10 feet-tall. In the 1980s we thought the Japanese were 10 feet tall. Today people are claiming the Chinese are 10 feet-tall - but I think we’ll outgrow all of this,” he added.

Many experts, including Ambassador John Bolton, say in the final analysis, the role that America will play in the years ahead remains in its own hands - and that’s what a democracy is all about. \

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong: The Highest Hotel in the World find out @smarterhiphop

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong: The Highest Hotel in the World find out @smarterhiphop

Want to get high ... legally? No, we're not talking a Salvia trip à la Miley Cyrus, but a literal 118 stories high.

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong
yesterday announced the opening of their 16th property in Asia, which boasts the title of "highest hotel in the world." Located at the very top of the International Commerce Centre (ICC) in Hong Kong and occupying floors 102 to 118, the hotel takes the honors away from the current title holder in Dubai\\

.

"The opening of this landmark hotel in Hong Kong is the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication to delivering the very best product, facilities and service in this international gateway city," said Herve Humler, president and chief operations officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C.

Arrival
Don't prep for a long elevator ride just yet. The hotel's arrival lobby is actually located on the ninth floor of the building, where guests will pause before being transported to floor 103, which offers panoramic views of Hong Kong and the harbor.

Rooms
The large but intimate-feeling hotel features 312 guest rooms ranging from 530 square feet for a basic Deluxe to 3,920 for the Ritz-Carlton Suite. All of the rooms offer amenities including WiFi, iPod docking stations, blu-ray DVD players and flat screen TVs. Want to splurge? We'd suggest booking a Club-level room, which offers panoramic views, a dedicated concierge, meeting rooms and complimentary food and beverages throughout the day.

Restaurants
You won't go hungry either. The hotel's six dining venues have been created by some of the biggest names in restaurant design, including Japan's Spin Design Studio and Wonderwall. The hotel offers three restaurants on the 102nd floor, including Tin Lung Heen, which offers Chinese cuisine with a Cantonese influence, Tosca, an Southern Italian restaurant with an open kitchen and the very stylish The Lounge & Bar. Don't miss the lounge's crystal fire pits.

Spa
Of course, no Ritz-Carlton would be complete without a spa. This branded ESPA spa is located on the hotel's 116th floor and offers nine treatment rooms plus two couples suites with floor-to-ceiling windows. We've heard the facials are truly spectacular, but the treatments all sound top-notch. Naturally, the hotel also features a fully equipped fitness center, the highlight of which is an indoor infinity pool overlooking the Victoria Harbour on the 118th and the 92' x 23' LED screen on the ceiling that can display images and videos.

What To Do
In the podium of the ICC, the one million square foot Elements shopping mall offers some of the finest shopping in Hong Kong. The ICC also offers direct connections to Hong Kong International Airport in 20 minutes and Central in five minutes.

@jayz & @kanyewest mutilated 373,000 car for charity @smarterhihphop

Kanye West and Jay-Z Auctioning Off Mutilated $373,000

\\Maybach for Charity

In "Otis," the first video from the Kanye West and Jay-Z (a.k.a the Throne) joint album Watch the Throne, the two hip-hop moguls oversee some unconventional body work to what appears to be a brand-new Maybach: The German luxury car -- base sticker priceapproximately $373,000 for the cheapest model -- gets sliced and diced with a blowtorch and power saw. In the first 30 seconds of the clip, the automobile loses its roof and doors and gets remixed into an open-air Jeep-style vehicle perfect for joyriding around a parking lot with a quartet of young ladies in the back seat while fireworks blast off, which is exactly what Jay and Kanye proceed to do in the Spike Jonze-directed video.
MTV News asked an expert to appraise the cost of the damage (or improvements, depending on your take) to the car, and the price ranged from $20,000 for a quickie job -- just the welding and painting -- to $150,000 for a fully reinforced frame. Expensive? Sure, but Jay allegedy spent $250K on a bar tab last night, so it probably didn't break his bank. "The thing is, the value of that car is nothing now, you couldn't drive it on the street," DUB magazine's Myles Kovacs told MTV. "It would start malfunctioning bigtime."
Jay-Z and Kanye West are certainly presuming the car is worth far more than "nothing," however -- according to a note posted at the end of the video, they're planning to auction the Frankenbach off for charity: "The vehicle used in this video will be offered up for auction. Proceeds will be donated towards the East African drought disaster." AllHipHop confirmed the auction is legit with the rappers' reps. (The group's publicist hasn't yet responded to The Amp's request to confirm the Maybach is the real deal.) No word how or when the vehicle will be sold off, but potential buyers should presumably plan to host lavish Watch the Throne listening sessions in the car rather than go cruising in it.
