#Smarterhiphop submission #Degrassi to music | TCUS Vol. 140

My special guest on The Come Up Show is Toronto singer Saudin. He's having his debut show this Friday, September 1 at the Mod Club and we definitely recommend you check it out.

Now why do I say he might be the next Drake? Well, Saudin is most commonly known for his role in the long-running TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation. Now he's making music with his first EP "Before I Met You four months ago and just released a brand new EP "A Midsummer's Daydream."

We had a very inspiring conversation that explores Saudin's creative process every up-and-coming artist should listen to. Saudin told us about his upbringing, living with his famous sister and how it inspired him, his transition from acting to making music, and so much more.

In this week's edition of The Come Up Show newsletter, we made you a playlist featuring music from Canada that was released this month just in time for your labour day weekend and some of the best photography of your favourite artists.

[Podcast] Saudin: What comes easy won't last, what lasts won't come easy

An excerpt from our podcast. Here is what he said to say about what it's like being compared to Drake.

"Being compared to Drake is an honor" [34:35]

Saudin: I don't really understand why people feel like it's necessary to say I look like somebody. How is that going to change my day? But if someone says I sound like [Drake] or make music like him, I'd take it as a compliment… It's just inevitable that people are going to say that since we started at the same place, on the same show, so it's inevitable.

[Music] Best of August 2017 Playlist

Summer is coming to an end but the talent from young musicians in Toronto doesn't have to. This past summer break we've seen some of the beset artists grow and prosper from Queen St. all the way to Warner Brothers Label.

Some of our favourite artists came up this summer and with August being a prime date for music release with all the festivals and events going on, we couldn't help but put on some of the best sounds of the city. Some new cats on the scene just recently began popping up this year, such as Saudin, or some veteran talents who're only getting bigger and better with time like Jazz Cartier. We chose some of the smoothest tracks of this past month and we'd love for you to take it all in before autumn rolls through. Take a listen below!
